Lydia Nelson
Friedland’s art is a coalescence of her life’s
journey. Born in Sarasota, Florida in 1956, her family moved
to a small town in Michigan where she spent her formative
years. Lydia moved back to Florida and graduated from the
University of South Florida in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Anthropology and International studies. Pursuing her
interest in diverse culture, Lydia traveled to Africa, South
America, Europe and Asia.
Over the years, Lydia’s
interests grew to include our natural environment and women’s
issues. In order to pursue her love of art and her need to
express herself visually, Lydia began studying with talented
artists and returned to college receiving her Bachelor of Fine
Arts degree in 1994 from the University of Central Florida.
Having worked in numerous media, Lydia’s visual voice has
found itself in unique forms and materials.
