Helen
Myung Hee Byon
began to develop an interest in art when she was a child in Seoul,
Korea. As a native of Korea, she was surrounded by simple, yet tranquil
oriental paintings and the elegance of Korean calligraphy.
She majored in Home Management at Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul, yet
she never lost her childhood love of art.
In 1982, she began to take art classes in various mediums, including
Korean calligraphy, watercolor, oil painting and pencil drawing.
She married in 1988 and settled in Merritt Island, Florida, where she
came across a medium that she grew to love; the art of sculpting clay.
In 1992, she enrolled in ceramics classes at Brevard Community
College’s adult education program. She then studied ceramics at the
Crealde’ School of Art in Winter Park for two years.
Helen’s works have evolved through self-study as well as through
attending numerous workshops and classes at museums and universities.
These courses focused on an assortment of various art mediums,
including fiber arts and monotypes.
Helen lives and works on Merritt Island Florida with her
husband and their son.
