Becky
Beerensson
Becky Beerensson’s
artistic style might be called enhanced realism. By working in black and
white, Beerensson is able to concentrate on composition. Subject matter
becomes irrelevant, as long as the composition and mood are right. At
first glance, her work may appear more abstract than real, expressing a
large, over-all flow of lights and darks. But on close examination, her
fascination with realistic detail becomes apparent. She is drawn to
contrasts – visual, as well as emotional. Even the most mundane subject
can express beauty and evoke a mood.
Beerensson’s
technique is one that evolved over the years, from pen and ink, with
washes, to today’s dry-brush technique, in which the ink is applied layer
by layer, to achieve an extensive range of values.
